Building a Wedding Band Stack

Sometimes, one wedding band just isn’t enough. A popular wedding band trend is layering multiple different bands together to create the ultimate ring stack.

Stacking for Beginners

If you’re looking to keep your stack simple, we recommend following this formula: stack one pave wedding band and one solitaire band. If your engagement ring has a pave band, use the solitaire band as the spacer between the wedding band and engagement ring. If your engagement ring is solitaire, do the opposite!

If you want something a little more interesting than a simple solitaire spacer band, opt for our burnished band that features sprinkled melee diamonds throughout!

Mixed Metals

Some people believe mixing metals is a faux-pas while others see it as a modern trend. If you’re on team mixed metals, this is the stack for you! You can use all pave bands, all solitaire bands, or mix and match, but the formula remains the same: stack one band that matches the metal color of your engagement ring and one that is different!

The most common metal color options are white gold/platinum and yellow gold. However, if you have a rose gold engagement ring, we recommend mixing in a yellow gold wedding band for easier fluidity.

If you really want to be bold, all three of your wedding bands can be different metal colors!

Chunky Stack

If you have a bigger engagement ring and you want a fancy eternity band as your wedding band, no one is stopping you! However, if you don’t want to stop there, who says you have to?

If you’re looking to achieve maximum sparkle and really go big instead of going home, why not stack another fancy band? The sky is your limit, but we recommend stacking one fancy band that matches your engagement ring's center stone shape and another shape that compliments it!

Note: try to keep the carat weights smaller so you have room on your finger for both bands as they will be chunker and higher set than your average pave wedding band.

Colorful Stack

If you’re really looking for something that will make you stand out, consider a color gemstone or color diamond band! The most popular color gemstone option for wedding bands and engagement rings is a blue sapphire. However, you can opt for anything, really!

Go with one gemstone band to act as a spacer band between your wedding band and engagement ring or opt for two to sandwich your engagement ring!

One thing to keep in mind is the gemstone’s softness. Every gemstone ranks differently on the Mohs Scale of Hardness. For instance, a diamond is the hardest stone coming in at 10/10–the only other stone that can scratch a diamond is a diamond. However, should you choose an emerald band, emeralds rank 7.5 to 8. Therefore, a diamond will also scratch an emerald. Sapphires and rubies are a 9, making them considerably durable.

Unconventional Stack

A good rule of thumb for wedding band stacks is to have an odd number of rings… but who says you have to do what everyone else is doing? Add as many rings as you can fit (without losing circulation in your finger)!
